Irish Association

"Before it was fashionable, cultural diversity and mutual understanding were stock-in-trade of the Irish Association."
DR JOHN ALDERDICE, former leader of the Alliance party

Organisation and Finance

Organization and Finance
The Irish Association is governed by a Council whose membership is drawn from its two constituent committees: one serving the membership in Northern Ireland and the other serving the membership in the Republic of Ireland.

Its impressive programme of talks, seminars and conferences has been implemented over the last fifty years by one Director (on a part-time salary) with the assistance of volunteers who have other full-time careers. It is recognised by the Council of the Association that the minimum requirement now is for a full-time Director and an Assistant Director, one based in Dublin and the other based in Belfast, with adequate office and secretary support.

A major found-raising effort in 1991 yielded a £25,000 per annum grant over three years form the International Fund for Ireland, which was matched by an equal amount from private sources. To met the needs an expanded role in the future, new and more extensive funding will be required.
